14 December 2012

The new movie from Romanian director Călin Peter Netzer, Poziția copilului (Child's Pose) is in contention for a Golden Bear award at the 2013 International Film Festival in Berlin, one of the most important film festivals in the world.

The Romanian film is one of the first six titles, announced in advance, to be screened for the first time in the official selection of the 63rd Berlin Film Festival between February 7 and 17 next year. The competition promises to be stiff, with big names like Gus Van Sant (Promised Land) and Ulrich Seidl (Paradise: Hope) also included in the competition.

Child's Pose examines the relationship between a domineering mother and her adult son and considers the potentially damaging effect parents have on their children. It is also a study of contemporary Romanian high-society and looks at influence peddling and corruption in the basic institutions of society (police and justice) and their extension to the whole socio-economic system in modern Romania.

The film stars Luminița Gheorghiu (in picture) (The Death of Mr. Lazarescu) and Bogdan Dumitrache (Best Intentions). The cast also includes Natașa Raab, Ilinca Goia, Florin Zamfirescu, Cerasela Iosifescu, Mimi Brănescu and Vlad Ivanov.

The script was written by Răzvan Rădulescu and the director Călin Peter Netzer; director of photography is Andrei Butică. Netzer also directed Maria and Medal of Honor with Victor Rebengiuc. The film was produced by Parada Film in co-production with Hai Hui Entertainment and the support of the National Center of Cinematography.
