Romanian fire inspectors find 3,200 irregularities in clubs, shopping malls
The inspectors of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) found over 3,200 irregularities in the clubs, bars, discos, theaters, and shopping malls which they controlled during last week.
They discovered serious violations of the fire safety requirements in 37 places, some of which were shut down while others were just suspended.
About 1,000 controls took place between November 9 and 16 in various public locations such as bars, clubs or restaurants to see if they complied with fire safety requirements. The control teams have issued almost 2,500 sanctions. 1,500 of them were only warnings, whereas 895 were fines, which totalled RON 8.5 million (EUR 1.9 million).
Controls started after a fire broke in the Colectiv club in Bucharest on October 30 killing 56 people.
