Romanian gadget producer launches first virtual reality glasses on the local market

11 December 2014

Romanian gadget producer E-Boda launched on Thursday, December 10, its AVATAR glasses, a device which allows users to get a virtual reality experience using their own smartphones.

The device can use new generation smartphones which are equipped with accelerometer or gyroscope, which use either the Android or the iOS platforms.

Users will be able to walk through the world’s museums, visit cities and faraway places, drive fast cars, or even explore space.

“The technological principle on which the AVATAR glasses are based on and the entertainment experiences they offer were seen only in SF movies a couple of years ago. Technology advanced so fast that we managed to simplify the functioning process and we now use an accessory which can be found in anyone’s pocket, the smartphone,” said Alexandru Dragoiu, E-Boda’s CEO, quoted by Economica.net.

The AVATAR glasses can be set up in just three steps. Users start the 3D virtual reality app on their smartphones, insert the smartphone into the dedicated compartment in front of the lenses and place the glasses in front of their eyes. Lenses adjust automatically, according to E-Boda’s representatives.

The new glasses will be sold via telecom operator Orange, via retailer Carrefour and on the e-boda.ro website. The recommended sale price is RON 299 (EUR 67).
