Romanian government bonds offer, oversubscribed in two days
Over 3,400 Romanians bought government bonds in the two days after the issuance had been launched, triple compared to last year.
Individuals subscribed over EUR 23 million during the two days, up 9% over the amount that was initially announced. On the first day, 655 people bought titles of EUR 7.2 million.
The Romanian Government considers supplementing the amount based on the demand. The offer will take place between July 11 and July 29, and will have an interest rate of 2.15%.
The titles are due in 2018, and their nominal value reaches RON 100 (EUR 22,2). One person can buy maximum 1,000 titles, with a value of EUR 22,200.
Romania’s Government resumed its bond issues for the population last year, after a decade hiatus. The program aims to provide small investors access to government bonds, as well as increase their degree of financial education, according to the Government.
