Romanian Government introduces excise duties for electronic cigarettes
The Government will introduce excise duties for electronic cigarettes next year. The amount will increase annually based on inflation.
Romania has taken after the EU when making this decision, according to the updated Fiscal Code project, cited by local Mediafax.
The new excise will amount to RON 384 (EUR 86.5) per kilogram for the tobacco contained in the electronic cigarettes. By comparison, the excise duties for regular cigarettes amounts to RON 383 per kilogram.
The Government will update the tax every year, based on the inflation in the previous 12 months.
In Romania, the tobacco industry is the second largest contributor to the state budget, after the oil sector.
