Romanian Government expects EUR 143 mln car tax revenues in 2012 - a third of initial projection

07 March 2012

The Romanian Government expects total revenues of about EUR 143.4 million (RON 624 million) from car tax this year, only a third of the amount in last year’s forecast and this year's initial projection, due to the 25 percent decrease in the tax quantum, and after the suspension of the first sale car tax, according to Mediafax newswire.

The estimated tax car revenues for this year were presented by the Minister of Environment, and were included in the Environment Fund budget approved Tuesday ( March 6 ) by the Government.

Starting this year, the car pollution tax will be 25 percent lower. In January, the Government decided to suspend until 2013 the first sale tax for the cars registered before 2007. People who have already paid this tax can get their money back.

In the draft decision of the budget approval, car tax revenues were initially estimated to some EUR 414 million (RON 1.8 billion).
