Romanian Government launches “fiscal receipts lottery” in July
The Romanian Government will launch in July this year the “fiscal receipt lottery” which will pay cash prizes to citizens who hold on to their receipts. The budget for prizes will be about EUR 2.2 million, for a six-month period, according to Mediafax.
The project aims to reduce tax evasion by encouraging people to ask for fiscal receipts when doing their shopping.
Romanians, as well as foreigners, will be able to participate in the monthly draws for the fiscal receipts lottery. These will take place on the first Sunday after the 15th of each month for the receipts issued in the previous months.
The Romanian National Lottery will hold the draws. The Lottery’s system will first draw a number between 1 and 999, which will represent the rounded nominal value of the receipt, in RON, VAT included. Then it will draw a date, which will be the date of the receipt.
For example, if the drawn number is 55 and the date is July 3, then all fiscal receipts issued on July 3, with a total value of RON 55 are considered winners.
People holding winning receipts will have to take the originals to any local unit of the National Fiscal Administration (ANAF) for validation, along with a copy of their identity cards or passports. They will also have to fill in a form. Claiming the prizes can only be done in 30 days after the draw.
The monthly prize budget will be divided equally by the number of winning receipts. If a monthly draw produces no winner, then the prizes will be carried forward to the next month.
The winners will get the money in their bank accounts in as much as 90 days after the draw.
