Romanian Government sets the date for euro zone entry: January 1, 2019
The Romanian Government has decided that January 1st 2019 is the target date for Romania’s euro zone entry, budget minister Liviu Voinea announced on Tuesday at the Economy and Finance Ministers of the EU member states EcoFin meeting in Brussels.
“Based on the progress made regarding real and nominal convergence, structural reforms evolution and solid economic growth perspectives, Romania’s Government set January 1, 2019 as the target date for euro zone accession”, Voinea said, according to a press release from the Finance Ministry.
Romania has sent the European Commission the new convergence program for the period 2014-2017. The document features a budget deficit to GDP target of 2.2 percent in 2014 and under 2 percent for the period 2015-2017, calculated in accordance with EU methodology (ESA), according to Mediafax.
