Romanian government to face new no-confidence motion

16 December 2010

Romania’s Parliament will debate on Monday, December 20,  the opposition’s no-confidence motion submitted over the 2011 salary law for which the Government sought a confidence vote Tuesday. The motion was read out in Parliament on Thursday.

Also Thursday, the opposition is expected to submit a second no-confidence motion, over the unitary wage law for the public sector. Chamber of Deputies vice-president Ioan Oltean said this motion will likely be read out Friday and also debated Monday.
The Romanian Government has recently survived another no-confidence motion in October this year. A year ago, a no-confidence motion which passed and the then Government was dismissed, but after Traian Basescu was re-elected as president and after several failed attempts to name a new prime minister, Emil Boc was again chosen to lead the Government.
