Romanian Government wants to change public procurement law

05 February 2015

One of the Romanian Government's main objectives is to change the public procurement law, Prime Minister Victor Ponta said.

Projects worth hundreds of millions of euro, backed by EU funds, are blocked by court appeals to tenders. The National Council for Solving Complaints (CNSC) and the Court of Appeal usually rule in such cases.

Ponta described this situation as a "national catastrophe" and warned that Romania could lose European funds this way, reports local Mediafax.

He has criticized several times the CNSC. Ponta claims that the Institution has been blocking public tenders.

The Government will amend the law to resume the auctions stopped by CNSC and will explain the European Commission the need for such measures, Ponta concluded.
