The Romanian Government Thursday approved the legal framework to set up a national visa information system which will enable the country to connect to the European Union Visa Information System, said Government spokeswoman Ioana Muntean.  According to Muntean, by implementing the system, Romania will have access to data regarding visa applications and will be able to offer such information to other EU member states, with the view to preventing possible security threats.

The implementation of the system is a step Romania must take as it aims to join the Schengen area.
