Romanian Govt: Negotiations with 21 investors with projects of EUR 1 bln

30 September 2011

The Romanian Government, whose members gathered for an emergency meeting yesterday evening, after Nokia announced its plans to close down the factory in Romania, is currently negotiating with ten companies to attract compensatory investments in Cluj county. These would compensate for the loss generated by the Nokia factory shutdown in Jucu, Cluj county, according to Andreea Paul-Vass, the Romanian Prime Minister's economic counselor.

The Government has a six-month deadline to find compensation solutions for Cluj and the Prime Minister has taken over the negotiations with 21 investors that want to enter the Romanian market.

“We're talking about 21 potential projects with a value of over EUR 1 billion, which could create 8,000 jobs. Other 20 investment projects are being evaluated at the Finance Ministry, for which state aid requests have been submitted,” Vass went on.
