Romanian healthcare operator MedLife continues expansion with new acquisition

08 January 2016

Romania’s biggest private healthcare operator MedLife has acquired the laboratory network Diamed Center, which is active in Bucharest, Braila, Tecuci, and Focsani.

It is the sixth company acquired by MedLife in the last year.

In 2015, Medlife bought the majority stake in the group SAMA & Ultratest and the stem cell bank Stem Cells Bank. Besides that, the healthcare operator took over the imaging center Prima Medical and two laboratories in Iasi and Constanta.

Diamed Center, MedLife's most recent acquisition, operates five medical test laboratories, two clinics, one recovery center, an aesthetic medicine unit, and eight sampling points for medical tests in Bucharest, Tecuci and Focsani. The company has an annual turnover of EUR 800,000, according to Diamed Center representatives.

After the acquisition, Diamed Center will be coordinated by one of the former owners.

MedLife has paid for the companies acquired in the last year about EUR 5 million, said the MedLife president Mihai Marcu. It now has a network of 23 laboratories and 32 medical centers in the whole country.

The group plans to significantly increase its budget for acquisitions this year.
