Romanian hotels see double-digit growth in tourist arrivals in April
The hotel and guesthouses in Romania registered more than 725,000 tourist arrivals in April, which represents a 13.7% growth over the same month in 2015, according to data from the National Statistics Institute (INS).
Romanian tourists accounted for 75% of total tourist arrivals in April, or 542,400, while the foreigners had a share of 25%, or 183,200. The number of foreign tourists was 14% higher compared to April 2015.
Most of the foreign tourists came from Europe – 134,700, followed by Asia – 27,500, North America – 12,300, Africa – 1,700, and South America – 1,300. The number of tourists from Africa increased by 41.7% year-on-year in April 2016.
The overnight stays in Romanian hotels totaled 1.47 million in April, up by 12.8% compared to the same month the previous year. Romanian tourists accounted for 76% of the total overnight stays whereas the foreigners had a share of 24%. The average stay in a hotel or guesthouse amounted to 2.1 days for Romanian tourists and 1.9 days for foreigners.
In the first four months of the year, the local accommodation units welcomed more than 2.58 million visitors, up by 15% year-on-year. Romanians accounted for most of the tourist arrivals (77%), the foreigners’ share amounting to 23%.
Most of the 597,300 foreign tourists who arrived in Romanian hotels and guesthouses came from Italy (66,739), Germany (60,778), Israel (58,792), France (38,472), and the UK (37,122).
The overnight stays totaled some 5.1 million between January and April, up 12.9% year-on-year.
