Two in five (38.9%) Romanian households say they have difficulties or very big difficulties in covering their current expenses while 42.7% have some difficulties in this regard.

Less than one in five (18.4%) households find it easy to cover their current expenses, according to a research by the National Statistics Institute (INS).

Almost a third (31.7%) of the households in Romania repeatedly had overdue payments in 2017, the report also shows. More than half (51%) of the households with overdue payments were late with their electricity bill, 50% had delays in paying the expense related to their household heating and maintenance and 36% paid their phone bills late.

Only 7.2% of the troubled households were late with their loan instalments as the penalties for overdue payments are higher when it comes to bank loans.
