Romanian investor launches new Grimberg auction house and art gallery in Bucharest

Romanian collector and antiquarian Stefan Grimberg (in picture) has opened a new art gallery in Bucharest and plans to launch an auction house as well.

Both the ventures will be run under his family name.

The estimated auction fund, which includes valuable works collectors entrusted Grimberg Auction House over 20 years, will amount to EUR 5 million, according to the company.

The Grimberg Art Gallery was recently inaugurated with the “Masterpieces of the Romanian painting, between academicism and modernism” exhibition, which features Romanian artworks by the likes of Gheorghe Tatarescu, Theodor Aman, Constantin Artachino, Nicolae Vermont, Samuel Mutzner and Nicolae Tonitza.

The Grimberg auction house is expected to run its first session by the end of the year.

The initial auctions will include Romanian painting and sculpture works, while the following auctions will add pieces including decorative art, cutlery and books.

Stefan Grimberg first ran a small gallery on Calea Victoriei DaVinci before moving to the Old Town, in the Hanul cu Tei area.

His new art gallery Grimberg is now located on 26 Carol I Boulevard, just across the street from Teatrul foarte Mic.

Among the auction houses currently active in Romania are Artmark, GoldArt and Alis.
