Romanian citizen investigated for jihadist propaganda

30 March 2018

A 30-year old Romanian man of Palestinian nationality is being investigated by anti-organized crime prosecutors for promoting messages specific to terrorist organizations.

He is suspected of being in an advanced state of radicalization and that he was training for using explosive devices.

The Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) started monitoring the man in 2015. The DIICOT prosecutors raided the man’s home in Ilfov county and took documents and propaganda materials as well as hard drives.

This is the second such case made public in Romania in recent years after a 17-year old Romanian student from Craiova was arrested and sent to court for jihadist propaganda. A court sentenced him to three years and four months in jail last year.
