Romanian judge arrested in anti-corruption case: he received eggs, poultry, honey as bribes
A Romanian judge was taken in by anti-corruption prosecutors for having allegedly issued 69 illegal rulings that gave a businessman property rights over 41 hectares of land.
The judge Bogdan Barbuta from the Radauti Court in Northern Romania helped the businessman take control of 79 small pieces of land that he had acquired, but which were at the core of legal battles among owners. The man later on sold the land and made a profit of some EUR 890,000.
In exchange for the help, the judge was promised a seven-day holiday in Mamaia in July 2014.
The judge also received some bribes from other people whom he helped with favourable rulings.
He got chocolate, eggs, poultry, pork, honey, as well as money, in the range of EUR 500 to EUR 1,000, as well as free dental work, in exchange for his help.
Prosecutors have asked the court for the judge’s 30-day arrest while his case is ongoing.
