Romanian Labour Minister: New wage law could be due by December

08 July 2015

A new law for salaries in Romania’s public administration could apply starting December this year.

It will set a ratio of 1 to 18 between the minimum and the maximum wage for public employees, said Labour Minister Rovana Plumb, cited by local Agerpres. The new scheme will include five main salary steps, but also a set of criteria and principles based on talks with international institutions and social partners.

The pay system in public administration is currently chaotic and doesn’t comply with any principle, Plumb said. The salary increases will be made based on a predictable budget form.

The new wage law will try to motivate and increase performance, so that public administration gets more specialists, the Minister added.
