The prosecutors of the Romanian National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) started investigating local media mogul and politician Dan Voiculescu for blackmail.
Three other Romanian businessmen, among which Octavian Cretu, the owner of mineral water producer Romaqua, denounced Voiculescu saying that they were blackmailed in order to pay him advertising contracts.
Voiculescu, a former senator and leader of the Conservative Party (PC) owns the Intact Media Group which includes the Antena 1 and Antena 3 television stations. He was indicted in December 2008 in another case for alleged fraud in the privatization of the Agriculture Research Institute (ICA).
