Romanian MPs adopt law on food waste
Romania’s Chamber of Deputies adopted yesterday the bill on food waste, which obliges companies to donate or sell at reduced prices the food products that are close to expiry.
The law introduces fines of up to RON 10,000 (EUR 2,200) for the companies that ignore the law’s provisions.
The draft project on food waste had been initiated by a group of 52 MPs. The bill was rejected by the Senate, but the Chamber of Deputies has the final say.
Sorin Minea, president of the Romanian Food Industry Federation Romalimenta, said that the law on food waste is forced, as it has many unclear things, is hard to apply and could bring more damages than benefits, reports local Agerpres.
