Romanian MPs present draft law project on food waste reduction

17 August 2015

Stores and restaurants should donate the food that is approaching the expiration date but is still safe to consume to orphanages, retirement homes, hospitals, and foundations, according to a project supported by a group of Romanian MPs.

The law plans to reduce food waste and help social NGOs, reports local Mediafax.

The goods whose expiration date is approaching are a “serious economic problem” for retailers, as most of these don’t have the capacity to reprocess the products. Currently they can only incinerate these goods.
