Romanian online retailer eMag grows business 52% in six months
Romanian online retailer eMag reported a turnover of EUR 62 million at the end of the first half of 2011, up 52 percent over the same period last year. By the end of this year, eMag aims to reach a turnover of EUR 150 million, which will represent an increase of 50 percent compared to 2010. The growth is in line with the market, as the company estimates that the electronic commerce market increased by almost 50 percent in first half of this year.
Last year, eMag had a turnover of EUR 102 million, up 60 percent compared to 2009, and reported a market share of about 70 percent of the total local market for online electronics and IT of EUR 145 million.
In May this year eMag started selling books, in partnership with distributor Libris, the new category being available on the Marketplace platform, while in August the company entered on the Do-It-Yourself segment.
Along with Asesoft Distribution and Flanco, eMag is part of the group of companies controlled by businessman Iulian Stanciu.
