Romanian PM arrives in New York while street rally expected in Bucharest
While street protests are being staged in Bucharest and more public servants plan to go on strike in the following days, all protesting against the recent Government measures and asking for the replacement of the Prime Minister, the Romanian PM Emil Boc is in New York, where he attends the works of the United Nations General Assembly.
As many as 20,000 protesters are expected in front of the Government headquarters in Bucharest today. Meanwhile, Emil Boc will have a range of meetings in New York with other officials on the sidelines of the gathering taking place between September 21-24.
Boc is scheduled to take part in the high-level meeting on the Millennium Development Goals on Wednesday. The Romanian Prime Minister will deliver an address to the round table debates on The Enlargement and Strengthening of Partnerships. He is due to take part in the general debates of the 65th session of the U.N. General Assembly on Thursday.
He is also due to meet the members of the Romanian community based in New York and to lay a wreath at the World Trade Center Memorial. The Romanian delegation also includes Foreign Minister Teodor Baconschi and Environment Minister Laszlo Borbely.
