Romanian PM considers resignation if President names new PM from PSD
Prime Minister Victor Ponta said that he is considering resigning as head of the Government if the new president, Klaus Iohannis, agrees to appoint a new prime minister from the Social Democrat Party (PSD).
"It is a decision that can be taken only by the new president, Mr. Iohannis. A discussion with Mr. Basescu – current president, e.n- is totally frivolous. You cannot talk to someone who goes home in two weeks," Ponta added, cited by local Agerpres.
He said that he thought about resigning from his position immediately after the presidential elections, but he understood that he received over five million votes.
The Social Democrat Party leader added that he would resign if the National Anticorruption Directorate asked for his prosecution in the file regarding the diaspora voting. He stated that the elections in the diaspora were not intentionally badly organized, but rather taking into account the situation of the 2009 elections. He also added that he has a political responsibility in this case, not a criminal responsibility.
