Romanian PM: Price of electricity and gas used by industrial consumers might go down

12 May 2014

The price of electricity and natural gas for industrial consumers might decrease, Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta said recently during a visit at Romanian steelmaker ArcelorMittal Galati.

“The price for energy already dropped, but it should and it can further decrease, especially through the enforcement, starting  July 1, of the scheme regarding the reduction by up to 85 percent of the green certificates, the reduction of the cogeneration tax, and there are other means through which we can further reduce the price of electricity,” said Ponta, quoted by Mediafax.

In the case of gas prices, Romania has a common strategy, involving the two producers, Petrom and Romgaz, and imports, in order to maintain gas prices so that major producers to have a margin, Ponta further explained.
