Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta, president of the Social Democratic Party PSD, said he is ready for a presidential candidacy if he had the support of his colleagues, and the National Council will be organized on August 1.

He also said that those who want to run for president should announce their intention at the meeting scheduled for August 1, according to Romanian media.

Answering a question, Ponta also said that nobody pressured him to run for president at this year’s elections. He added that, however, as president of PSD, he learned to resist to pressures.

Poll: If presidential elections organized next week, Romanian PM would win.
