Romanian PM takes the heat from his own party on new minister proposals

04 March 2014

Prime Minister Victor Ponta is facing discontent among his own party for his ministerial nominations to build a new component of the Romanian Government.

The proposals include several new names and are an attempt to bring in some young blood to the government's ranks.

However, older members of the Social Democratic Party PSD, headed by Ponta, are unhappy with some of the nominations, and with the fact they did not have a say, according to Romanian news website Hotnews.ro.

Some even said they heard the proposals on the news, rather than internally, from the PM himself, and ahead of the PSD steering committee vote.

Complaints came mainly from regional PSD leaders, who were expecting to have a say in the namings and in the negotiations for ministerial seats, according to Hotnews.ro, quoting unnamed sources.

More about the recent proposals for the Romanian Government, including the new names, here, and the full list of proposed ministers, here.

The Parliament was expected to cast its vote on this proposed structure on Tuesday, March 4.
