Romanian Police buys 400 new Volkswagen cars
The Romanian Police has bought 400 new Volkswagen Polo cars, whose acquisition was planned by the Interior Ministry since 2014. The first cars will arrive this week.
The vehicles have petrol engines, and are not part of the Volkswagen scandal that broke at the end of September, when it was found that the company rigged the diesel engine emissions tests in America and Europe.
The Romanian Road Police will use the new cars, which will be spread across the country. The average acquisition price for each model amounts to EUR 13,000, which means that the whole contract amounts to EUR 5.2 million, reports local Digi24.
Volkswagen’s sales in Romania dropped by 30% in September compared to August, after the Dieselgate scandal broke. The German brand sold over 6,900 new cars in Romania in the first nine months, up by 9% compared to the same period of last year, and was second in terms of sales after local brand Dacia.
