Romanian police catch trafficker who grew cannabis on Vivaldi music

29 May 2014

A 36-year old Romanian was caught with some 35 kilograms of cannabis, which he grew himself in two locations in Bucharest, using classical music by Vivaldi to speed up the process.

He was arrested by prosecutors from the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) with the help of policemen from the Narcotics Division. The Bucharest Court ordered the man's arrest for 30 days.

The police searched the two houses where he was running his pot business and found both drugs and money from drug sales. The total catch was some 35 kilograms of cannabis, which would sell on the black market for around EUR 350,000, at an average price of EUR 10 per gram, according to online estimations.

The police also seized almost EUR 12,000 in cash. They also found equipment he used for indoor cannabis cultivation. “The accused used modern technologies, including music therapy (music pieces by Antonio Vivaldi) to speed up the plants’ growth,” the investigators said in a press release.

According to some, playing classical music to plants helps them grow faster, but this is not supported by hard scientific evidence.
