Romanian Police confiscate over 24,000 Christmas trees this year
The Romanian police confiscated ilegally cut and sold Christmas trees, wood and Christmas wreaths with a total value of RON 2.4 million (some EUR 540,000) between November 15 and December 24, according to a statement of the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police (IGPR).
In this period, the police applied over 3,400 sanctions with a total value of some RON 4.2 million (EUR 940,000).
As a complementary measure, the police confiscated 24,158 Christmas trees with a value of RON 996,000 (around EUR 223,000), over 6,000 cubic meters of wood, as well as over 17,200 Christmas wreaths.
According to IGPR, this is the highest number of Christmas trees confiscated by the police in the last three years. This was part of the Police's activities to curb the illegal tree cutting in Romania.
