Romanian Presidency disagrees with Government on economic growth

20 January 2017

The Romanian Government’s economic growth estimate seems “unrealistic”, said presidential adviser Cosmin Marinescu.

He explained that the Presidency worries that the country will reduce investments to a level even lower than in 2016, reports local News.ro.

The presidential adviser added that all the international forecasts indicate an economic growth rate of under 4% for Romania, this year, whereas the current Government expects a 5.2% growth.

“It’s not clear why the estimate has been increased in just two months from 4.3% to 5.2%,” the presidential adviser added.

The measures adopted by the new Government will have a budget impact of RON 8.44 billion (EUR 1.8 billion), according to the presidency. This represents an additional budget effort that adds to the deficit already calculated by the former Government for this year, of 2.96% of the GDP.
