Romanian president Traian Basescu met US president Barack Obama on Tuesday in Washington, during an official visit to the US, which also included the signing of the US anti-missile shield placement in Romania. The Romanian Presidency has recently posted  the first official pictures from the Basescu – Obama meeting.

The visit came despite media speculations that Basescu was only to meet the US Vice President Joe Biden, as the meeting between the two heads of state was not officially announced by none of the parties.

The meeting, which took place in the famous Oval Office in the White House, lasted for 30 minutes and was followed by a meeting with the US VP Joe Biden. Romania and US signed on Tuesday the document which will allow the US to place elements of the anti-missile shield in Romania, at Deveselu.  More about it here.
