Romanian President gets four time the average wage in Romania
The Romanian presidential administration recently published a list of all employees and their monthly net salaries.
According to this document, President Traian Basescu earns a monthly salary of RON 6,706 (some EUR 1,480), while the presidential advisers Iulian Chifu, Cristian Diaconescu, Claudiu Dinu, Bogdan Dragoi, Iulian Fota and Bogan Manoiu get a net wage of RON 5,363 (around EUR 1,180).
For comparison, the highest salary at the Romanian Financial Authority is of EUR 14,000 on a regular month. This is the salary of the president of the ASF, Radu Rusanu. The ASF has however emphasized that ASF is funded privately and is not a state institution, and that salaries will halve this year. The salaries of the first vice-president and vice-presidents of ASF amount to the RON equivalent of EUR 12,000.
Meanwhile, the average salary in Romania is of around EUR 370, which puts the country president's salary at almost four times the average, and the ASF president's, almost 38 times higher.
The state advisers receive RON 4,696 (EUR 1,041) a month, except for Ion Oprisor, who has a slightly higher salary, of RON 4,724 (EUR 1,047).
The advisers and cabinet executives earn monthly net wages between RON 2,234 (EUR 495) and RON 4,125 (EUR 914), according to the data presented by the presidency.
The former heads of state receive a monthly net salary of RON 5,060 (some EUR 1,120), while the advisors get between RON 1,667 (EUR 369) and RON 2,667 (EUR 591). Find the entire list here.
