Romanian President asks Government for the agenda in advance
Romania’s President Klaus Iohannis has officially asked Prime Minister Viorica Dancila to inform him in advance about the agenda of each government meeting, according to an official press release issued by the Presidency.
Reportedly, Iohannis wants to make sure no controversial bill, such as the amnesty and pardon bill, is passed.
“In order to exercise the prerogatives established by art. 87 of the Constitution, I ask you to send me the agenda of each government meeting”, President Iohannis asked in the letter sent to PM Dancila.
“The President of Romania may take part in meetings of the Government in which issues of national interest concerning foreign policy, defence of the country, ensuring public order […]. The President heads the Government meetings that he attends,” according to art. 87 of the Constitution.
Another regulation pertaining the functioning of the Government stipulates that the executive should make public its agenda 24 hours prior to the meetings.
MP Claudiu Manda, an influential member of the senior ruling Social Democratic Party (PSD) said the PM will inform Iohannis of the Government’s agenda only in the specific case stipulated by the Constitution: namely when relevant bills are discussed, according to Digi24.ro.
