Romanian President speaks about removing the surveillance mechanism
President Klaus Iohannis recently explained his statement this week on the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism (CVM) which came under strong criticism.
"I didn't say that it's necessary to remove the CVM fast, I didn't say to lift it now, nor to remove it because I don't like it," Iohannis explained, reports local Digi24.
"The CVM was useful and it helps us, it was agreed upon and not imposed in the accession negotiations. The CVM was invented as a tool of control and verification to help Romania and it has clearly defined objectives. I want everyone to work to meet these objectives, and then the CVM will no longer be needed. This can happen in a few years," said Klaus Iohannis.
