Romanian producer Agricola Bacau sees poultry sales flat after nine months

29 October 2013

Romanian poultry producer Agricola Bacau posted a turnover of EUR 99.3 million in the first nine months of 2013, flat on the same period of 2012.

President of Agricola Bacau Grigore Horoi said although the period had been a difficult one, he expected things to improve.

“This is still a difficult period for producers, as the price of resources is not correlated with the sale price of meat, which in other EU countries is 35 to 60 percent higher while the costs are the same. But I trust things will change for the better," he said.

Agricola Internaţional, the group's company which deals with poultry production and which runs its network of stores and operates logistics, posted a 5 percent turnover, to some EUR 62 million.

Agricola Bacau, which saw a drop of 30 percent in poultry exports, said was focused on the domestic market.

All all, in only 12 percent of its meat production went to international markets.

On the cold cuts segment, run by the group firm Salbac, sales went up by 6 percent in the first nine months, to some EUR 14.2 million, even if the sold volumes went down by 7 percent.

Ready-made meals by Europrod also saw sales increase by 5 percent, while Avicola Lumina Constanța sold less eggs – down by a quarter in the first nine months of 2013, compared to the same period of 2012.
