Romanian prosecutors arrest police chief who asked for wine, water and steak as bribe
Prosecutors from the anticorruption department DNA arrested Mirel-Misu Mindinica, the chief commissioner of the police station 11 in Bucharest, for bribery.
On November 9, Mindinica asked for a pack of wine, a box of sparkling water and 15 steaks from a theft suspect. In return, he promised that he would help him with his case. As the person in question didn’t have the money to buy these products, he gave the police officer RON 200 (EUR 45) and promised that he would give him RON 500 (EUR 110) more in a few days.
According to DNA, Mindinica was caught red-handed on November 11 while taking RON 190 (EUR 43) as bribe from the person investigated for theft.
The chief commissioner might be placed under a 30-day preventive arrest if the Bucharest Court will approve the prosecutors’ request.
