Romanian RCS & RDS spends EUR 1 mln on graphic services from Vizrt for new TV channel

Romanian telecom company RCS & RDS signed several deals worth around EUR 1 million for the implementation of broadcast graphics products from Norwegian company Vizrt. The Romanian company prepares to launch a news TV channel, Digi TV, besides the existing three sports channels, one film channel and several music channels. The news-only channel will be launched in 2012.

The acquired services include real – time HD graphics, character generator for live events, real-time weather maps and post production graphics.

“Our goals for the graphics system were high. We wanted a system capable of giving the best graphics look,” said Costin Niculescu, Digi TV Technical Manager. RCS & RDS recently received a EUR 300 million syndicated loan to fuel its development.

Vizrt provides real-time 3D graphics and asset management tools for the broadcast industry, for media companies like CNN, CBS, Fox, the BBC, BSkyB, ITN, ZDF, Star TV, Network 18, TV Today, CCTV, NHK, The Globe and Mail, Times Online, The Telegraph, and Welt Online.

RCS & RDS ranks 37th in the top of the biggest companies in Romania, based on their 2010 turnovers (check the full top we published here). Its 2010 sales reached EUR 418 million, up from EUR 391 million the year before. RCS & RDS has 9 million users of cable, internet, satellite TV, mobile and fixed telephony services. The company is controlled by Romanian businessman Zoltan Teszari. It was created 15 years ago and operates on the Romanian market, as well as in Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Croatia and Serbia.
