Romanian researcher makes bioethanol from sawdust
A Romanian researcher from Cluj managed to find a formula to turn sawdust into bioethanol, the fuel of the future. She worked six years on this project and got two patents for her discoveries.
US scientists also discovered a way to make bioethanol from sawdust, but the one of the Romanian researcher is also ecologically clean, reports local Digi24.
“We have developed a method that uses only water and sawdust. We place this mixture in a pressure reactor,” said Romanian researcher Lacramioara Senila.
At over 200 degrees Celsius, the composition is processed in only 15 minutes.
Her technology is also more efficient, as she makes 6 grams of bioethanol from 100 grams of sawdust while the Americans make 2 to 4 grams.
“We want to bring this technology to the industrial level and, why not, see it at the gas pumps,” she added.
Specialists say however that there is a long way until the new fuel will reach gas stations and that this industry also needs the state's support.
Researchers from Cluj now plan to make eco fuel from hay.
