Romanian Restitution Authority: Most compensations, overestimated

20 January 2015

George Baesu, the president of Romania’s National Authority for Property Restitution (ANRP) said that 60% to 70% of the compensation cases worth over EUR 1 million were overestimated.

The state budget suffered huge damages in the process of evaluation and compensation carried out between 2010 and 2011, reports local Economica.net.

The ANRP president explained that a number of individuals had the required 'recipe' preferred to be compensated over this period, "because it paid better", rather than receiving land elsewhere.

"The most important thing is to recover these damages. State institutions carry out seizures and we will certainly see the first amounts that return to the state budget following these actions," Baesu said.
