Romanian Royal Family attend Diamond Jubilee in London this week-end

01 June 2012

After attending the Diamond Jubilee ceremonies with royalty from 26 countries earlier in May in London, the Romanian Royal family are heading to the jubilee celebrations for Queen Elizabeth II this week-end.

Princess Margareta and Prince Radu (in picture, right) will be on a four-day trip to UK from June 2, attending the Thames boat parade on June 3, a lunch in Dorset the same day, the Garden Party at the Buckingham palace on June 4, a concert outside Buckingham Palace in memory of Queen Victoria the same day, and the Royal Carriages parade on June 5 from Westminster Palace to Buckingham Palace.

This week-end will be the climax off the Diamond Jubilee celebrations, which started earlier in February. Monday, June 4 and Tuesday June 5 will be national holidays and street parties are expected across the UK. A concert at Buckingham Palace, a Royal Pageant on the River Thames and a thanksgiving service at St Paul’s Cathedral, London will all be held on the jubilee weekend.

Earlier in May, King Michael of Romania (in picture, left) and Queen Anne attended the ceremonies at the Windsor Palace organized by Queen Elisabeth II and Prince Philip.

Queen Elizabeth II became only the second English monarch to reach a diamond jubilee for sixty years on the throne after her great great grandmother Queen Victoria, who reigned for almost 64 years. On February 6, 1952, the Queen’s father, King George VI died and the then Princess Elizabeth became Queen at the age of 25.
