Romanian royalty cookbook among finalists at World Cookbook Awards

Romania is among the six finalists in the Easy Recipe section of the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards, that will take place next week in Paris. Princess Margareta of Romania's book 'Cartea regala de bucate' (The Royal Cookbook) is one of the six finalists in this section, joining book publishers from France, Ireland, Malta, UAE and Wales.

Princess Margareta of Romania is the eldest daughter and the heiress of former Kind Michael of Romania. Her cookbook brings together food recipes from royalty to whom she or the Royal Family are either related or friends with, with stories and portraits of Royal Family members.

Recipes from the likes of the UK's Prince Charles, Queen Silvia of Sweden and Queen Sofia of Spain have been included in the the book that was published in Romanian by the Curtea Veche publishing house in 2010.

Princess Margareta, 63, was born in Switzerland and grew up in Denmark, Switzerland, Greece and UK. She worked with the United Nations for 10 years, and went on to dedicate herself to the Romanian cause after the 1989 fall of the communism. She created the foundation Principesa Margareta a Romaniei, which has offices in six countries. She has been living with her husband Prince Radu at the Elisabeta Palace in Bucharest since 2001.

The Paris World Cookbook fair will open on March 7 and will host 70 cooking demonstrations and an array of culinary events.
