Romanian Simona Halep goes up one place in WTA rankings
Romania’s tennis ace Simona Halep has climbed one place in the WTA ranking of the best women's tennis players in the world. She is now at number 4 in the ranking, up from 5th place.
The Romanian is thus getting closer to her objective of ending the year on the third place.
Halep played the semifinals of the Wuhan tournament in China at the end of September. The good result also brought the Romanian the ticket to the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore.
However, in the next tournament, China Open, Zhang Shuai beat Simona Halep in the third round. China Open took place between October 1 and October 9.
German Angelique Kerber is the world's number one women's tennis player, with 8,390 points. American Serena Williams ranks second with 7,050 points, followed by Poland's Agnieszka Radwanska with 6,145 points.
Romania has three other players in top 100, namely Irina-Camelia Begu (28th), Monica Niculescu (50th), and Sorana Cirstea (83rd).
