Romanian snowboard competition with two champions in Sibiu, this weekend

09 January 2013

Champion snowboarders Martin Freinademetz and Andy Fazekas will be racing in the Paltinis resort's Platos Arena on Saturday (January 12 ) in the Alpin Snowboard race , according to the local press.

The Austrian Martin Freinademetz, with 17 National, European and World titles already, started his career as a snowboarder when he was 16 years old after skiing from the age of two. He became one of the top snowboarders in Europe and went on to organize many events. He began to come to Romania in 1993 to participate in sports competitions, particularly off-road motorbike racing, in which he is also a top competitor. He married a local girl from Sibiu, who was also a snowboarder, and thus began to spend more time in Romania.

Andy Fazekas has won numerous titles in Romania. He started in 1986, and built his first snowboard himself. "I still have that board. Many people wanted to buy it, but I care about it a lot. Maybe I will take it to ride before competition ..." said Fazekas.

He began his professional career in 1995 and won the national championship in snowboarding 12 times, being ”en titre” champion after winning the last championship held in Azuga. In 2001, he ranked 22 in the world, and in 2003 completed the fifth world bordercross championship . "Probably it is the parallel slalom technique, there are few riders who can execute this discipline," said Andy Fazekas.

The contest will have categories for boys and girls and possibly types of snowboard. Registrations for the contest can be made on the email address cristina.badiu@arenaplatos.ro or at the competition, in Apres-Ski, between 09:00 and 11:00. The final round will be at 19:00.
