Romanian song (by American band) – Pana cand nu te iubeam by Pink Martini [cover]
More often than not, Romanians are the ones speaking, writing or singing in English, and not the other way around. But there’s an American band which recorded a song in Romanian (and in the meantime we’ve also been hearing more and more foreigners speaking Romanian).
The band is called Pink Martini. The song we’re referring too is not brand new – it was launched in 2013, and it is a reinterpretation of a famous Romanian song by Maria Tanase. It’s called Pana cand nu te iubeam – an approximation in English – until I stopped loving you.
The band seems to be in love with Romania. The leading singer Storm Large speak and sings in 14 languages, but she believes Romanian is the most beautiful language she ever heard. Listen to the song below, and read the lyrics in Romanian.
Pink Martini was founded in 1994 by pianist Thomas Lauderdale. The leading singers are Storm Large and China Forbes.

Pana cand nu te iubeam,
Dorule, dorule,
Unde ma culcam dormeam,
Dorule, dorule!
Dar acum ca te iubesc,
Dorule, dorule,
Nu pot sa ma odihnesc,
Dorule, dorule!
Ies din casa sa ma duc,
Dorule, dorule,
Nu stiu incotro s-apuc,
Dorule, dorule
Saraca inima mea,
Dorule, dorule,
De la tin’ nu se mai ia,
Dorule, dorule!
