Romanian song of the week: Orasul by Loungerie II
One of the best Romanian songs we've listened to this year - while looking for candidates for this section- comes from the jazz rock band Loungerie II. It is one of our favorites probably because it is something a bit different. Loungerie II's song 'Orasul' (The City), launched sometime in July, already has some airplay as a new entry on a few Romanian radio stations, but is not the regular summer song.
Strong, powerful lyrics in Romanian are in tune with the strong sound, but somehow dissonant with the beginning of the song, which is more mellow, a slow beginning of the day kind of intro. The lead singer Andreea Tincea's voice contrasts with the spoken words from the second singer, Andrei Bucurenci.
The band, created in 2008, has had a few changes in lineup. It now consists of six members, with Catalin Lungu playing the guitar, Dan Iliescu at drums, Dan Boeriu – bass, and Dan Michiu, guitar and sounds, apart from the two singers.
This band seems to be one of the popular bands of the moment, with shows in different cool locations in Bucharest. Check their Facebook profile.
