Romanian song: Remembering Maria Tanase

Romanians celebrated 100 years since the birth of famous Romanian singer Maria Tanase this week, which is a good excuse to listen to some of her songs.

For those who like old music, but would rather see it reinvented with new rhythms, we recently discovered a remix of a famous song sung by Maria Tanase, Ciuleandra.

The remix is done by Bogdan Papoiag from Unu. Listen below to both the remix, and the original version.

This remix discovery is also a good moment to either re-listen to some of Maria Tanase's famous songs, or for listening to them for the first time.

Maria Tanase, nicknamed the Edit Piaf of Romania, was a Romanian singer of traditional music who lived between 1913 and 1963.

She is one of the most famous Romanian singers and her songs are still listened today.

Some of her famous songs include Cine iubeste si lasa/Who loves and let go, Bun ii vinu ghiurghiuliu / How good red wine is (in an approx. translation), Aseara ti-am luat basma /Last night I bought you a scarf, or Marie si Marioara.
