Romanian student wins visit to the White House in essay contest
A high school student from Constanta won a three-day trip to Washington, including a visit to the White House, following an international essay contest.
Elif Memet came 13th overall and first in Europe in the essay contest organised by the Gulen Institute Youth Platform in Houston, U.S. More than 1,000 students in 65 countries submitted their pieces in this contest. She and 14 other students will receive USD 300 each and will get their awards in a ceremony at the White House, on April 15.
Elif is a senior at The International Computer High School of Constanta. In 2013, she won the gold medal at the International Environmental Projects Olympiad with an organic fertilizer that she patented through The Romanian State Office of Invention and Brands. She is also an Aspire High School Ambassador.
The Gulen Institute Youth Platform aims to help students define problems related to stable peace and social harmony, discuss them, and offer possible solutions from their perspectives. Contributes to achieving a positive impact on society by building social skills
The participants in the essay competition had to answer the following question: “Are Citizens of the World Succeeding in Lessening Global Poverty?”
