Romanian students win five gold medals at Junior Balkan Math Olympiad

The junior Olympic team of Romania managed to win five gold medals and a bronze medal at the Junior Balkan Mathematical Olympiad 2018, which took place in Rhodes, Greece, between June 19 and June 24.

Romania thus topped the unofficial ranking of nations, according to a press release from the Education Ministry.

The gold medals went to Ioana Popescu (student at the Scoala Europeana Theoretical High School in Bucharest), Diana Tolu (the Eugen Ionescu Secondary School in Slatina, Olt county), Andrei Moldovan (the Secondary School No. 79 in Bucharest), Vlad Stefan Vergelea (the International Theoretical High School of Informatics in Constanta), and Andrei-Theodore Marginean (the International Theoretical High School of Informatics in Bucharest). Meanwhile, Iustinian-Cristian Constantinescu, student at the George Bacovia Secondary School in Bucharest, won the bronze.

The Junior Balkan Mathematical Olympiad is an annual competition for students from the Balkan states. This year's edition was attended by competitors from 17 countries (10 member countries and 7 invited).
